He retired from the position on 31st December 1896, and was replaced by his son, Andrew, who continiued on with his brother John as Partners.

Rev Alexander McNaughtan married Janet Blackwood, daughter of William Blackwood and Agnes(Janet) Whyte, on 26 November 1814 at Strathblane, Stirling, Scotland. Rev Alexander McNaughtan was a Minister of the UP Church Milngavie. He died on 6 August 1861 at age 74. In 1809 he became Minister of the Cairns United Free Church in Milngavie, and was moderator of the Relief Synod in 1832. He led his people into the Union of 1847, which formed the United Presbyterian Church. He continued as Minister of Milngavie United Presbyterian Church until 1861.

James Blackwood married Agnes Gardner, daughter of William Gardner and Margaret (Mary) McIntyre, on 5 October 1848 at New Kilpatrick, Dunbarton, Scotland. James Blackwood died on 4 May 1884 at Mooroopna, Victoria, Australia, at age 68. From some family letters, it is known that James was in Victoria around 1854 with his brother Alexander.
From information from the Melton Family History Society, James remained in the Melton area, assisting his brother, Alexander, with the management of the sheep farm "Creighton". Later, James moved to Mooroopna, in Northern Victoria, on acquiring some land there.

Robert McMurdo was a Police Constable & Lorryman. He was born on 11 July 1870 at Keir, Dumfries, Scotland. He was the son of William McMurdo and Marion Hiddleston. Robert McMurdo married Mary Jane Bell, daughter of John Bell and Mary Brown, on 16 December 1898 at Alloa, Clackmannan, Scotland. Robert McMurdo died on 25 February 1905 at Royal Infirmary, Dennistoun, Glasgow, Scotland, at age 34. An Inquest found that he died from an industrial accident.
