The strongest candidate for his father is Matthew Blackwood (1820 - 1873), but this is not proven beyond all doubt.

Alexander Murray married Sarah Jamieson Rankin, daughter of John Rankin and Helen Stevenson, on 16 February 1875 at Drummore, Kirkmaiden, Wigtownshire, Scotland. Alexander Murray died on 22 January 1911. He was a Master Mariner.

     Sarah Jamieson Rankin was born on 17 November 1855 at Drummore, Kirkmaiden, Wigtown, Scotland; Her birth certificate in 1855 states that she was illigitimate. Her mother's maiden name of Stevenson seems to have followed on through her life. She was the daughter of John Rankin and Helen Stevenson. Sarah Jamieson Rankin married Alexander Murray, son of Alexander Murray and Elizabeth Jenkins, on 16 February 1875 at Drummore, Kirkmaiden, Wigtownshire, Scotland. Sarah Jamieson Rankin died on 29 April 1930 at Inch, Wigtown, Scotland, at age 74.
