This family history file shows the descendants of William Blackwood, a bleacher from Craigallian, near Strathblane in Stirlingshire (c 1751 - 1846), and Thomas McMurday (various spellings for this line include McMurdo, McMurdie and McMurdy), mid 1700's from Keir, Dumfriesshire. And, of course, many various other family lines connected with their descendants.

I am a direct descendant from William Blackwood.

As matter of form, I have used the spelling of surnames as they appeared in source documents even though the recorded spelling often changed throughout life events, which I have strived to accommodate. Early variations of McMurdo would be a classic example.

I am indebted to the contributions to this database made by Margaret Black (Paisley), Denise Adamson (NZ), and many others. All living people have been excluded from the database to the best of my knowledge. I have not included sources, but would be happy to answer queries on them.

Several photographs, particularly of the Blackwood line at Craigton, have been donated to me by Wendy Robertson of Ohio. Wendy is descended from the Rev. George McQueen who succeeded the Rev. Alexander McNaughtan at the United Presbyterian Church, Milngavie. I am indebted to Wendy for her permission to use the photos on this site.

There are many photographs of the Bell/Waters/Palmer families on Donald Slater's site at http://www.flickr.com/people/palaeoecogeek
